MacBook Air constanty drops wifi connection – Super User

MacBook Air constanty drops wifi connection. Ask Question 22. 8. My MacBook Air keeps dropping wifi connection on my home network. When I connect to my network, it remains connected for a few minutes, then it drops the connection. I have no idea what’s the problem. I found several forums on the internet discussing this, but none of them really

I did some more research, and came up with a temporary solution. Not the best thing to do, but it certainly worked for me. So whoever has the same problem, do this:
open Automator, select Application.
add a Shell Script item.
enter the following command in it: ping -i 0.2 (or whatever the IP of your router is).Best answer · 0
The WiFi on my iMac kept disconnecting each time the computer went to sleep, about 15 min when computer was not used. I solved it by going to energy saver in system preferences to extend the computer sleep time and unselected the “put the hard disk/s to sleep when possible”.0Apple support cleared this up for me. I needed to clear out all wifi networks saved under the preferred networks tab Networks>Advanced>Preferred Wifi Networks – with the exception of the network created to login to our secure office environment.0The Yosemite update 10.10.2 (published 27.1.2015) fixed this problem on my MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013).0I have a Netgear dual band router and both bands had the same SSID name. So I made them different names and so far it’s solved.
I’ve read varying opinions on whether the SSID names can match when using a dual band router. I figure making them different names is the safest way to go for now.0
I went to the BT site and swap the speed for this device from dual speed to just 5 GHz. Apparently some devices don’t like dual speeds. Anyway this solution worked for me. The text is as follows:
How do I change the wireless channel on my BT Home Hub 5?0
Did the same as all the other forums suggested with no result either. Then did the following, which although not ideal finally works so I can stay on the home network more than 15-20 seconds.
Reversed the keychain action to allow the network to connect via AirPort and.0
I had a problem on my Macbook which caused me trouble for a long time, but I have solved it now. It may work for you.
My problem: I had a BTHub4 and it offered 2 networks with the same name – I didn’t realise it but it was a dual speed hub and the computer is supposed to automatically select the option that is best.0
I have had the same wifi issues with my lat 2012 Macbook Air (I7, 512ssd, 8GB) and haven’t really been able to use it for the last three years as a result. This is where it gets a little weird0

Mac keeps losing internet connection – Apple Inc.

Jun 27, 2015 · Same here. My MBP has worked perfectly with my router since August 2011. Recently it keeps dropping the internet connection, maintaining the WIFI and sometimes it loses both. Renewing DHCP connects and then blocks. Typing the IP address manually connects to WIFI, but not the internet. In the beginning it came back on by restarting the machine.

First contact your ISP. You need to confirm that the issue is not on their end. Change your router channel. Sometimes this is all you will have to do. Power cycling the router. Read the router’s user manual or contact their tech support for instructions. System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network Unlock the padlock Locations: Automatic Highlight Airport Click the Assist Me button In the popup window click the Diagnostic button. System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock. Highlight Airport. Network Name-select your name. Click on the Advanced button. Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network. Place a check mark next to “Remember networks this computer has joined.” Click the OK button and lock the padlock. Restart your computer. Mac OS: How to release and renew a DHCP lease No internet connection (wireless) Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS). If using a 3rd party router, read its user manual, contact their tech support department/website or post in its forum area. Another possible solution – read mammothsuziq response’ve got the same issue, and it has to be a Yosemite software bug. How i know: 1. Never had this problem before and have noticed it since Yosemite. 2. Two laptops, same problem. One 6 years old, one 1 month old and new model (MB 2015). 3. New laptop can’t go to sleep, and it seems like the issue is in the Wifi. When the lid is closed, it keeps getting woken up every 15min from the internet. Have gone through everything with tech and the issue is the Wifi driver. Only way to make it sleep is turn wifi off before closing lid. 4. iPhone and iPad have no issues with the router what-so-ever and the internet on them is perfect. 5. Laptops have the same issue anywhere i go. 6. All friends laptops (note, non mac) have no issues at my place. 7. I know about 20 other people personally who are having this issue with wifi. Apple, Sort it out!I had the similar thing happening on my MBP I found a post suggesting that adding a location to Network Preferences will help. I can’t find the post so I give my thanks to the internet and hope it lands on the people that found this helps. In my case my internet worked for a while, then trying to open a page or do a search would take a really long time or fail, cycling the wifi connection instantly fixes the connection and it becomes responsive again. I have lots of systems, Windows, Mac, Linux, this only happens on the Mac’s and it’s not any obvious network setting. I suspect adding a new location resets some hard to find or hidden options that may be causing the issue. Adding a location seems to band-aid the issue for awhile, I have done this twice in the last six months, first time was like magic, doing it again seems to be working. 1. Open System Preferences: 2. Open Network 3. At the top there is a combo box for Location, expand it and select Edit Locations. 4. Click the plus sign and create a new location name eg: Milky Way Galaxy 5. Click done. Optionally add manual DNS addresses (seemed to be working just via DHCP but I still like manual DNS settings): 1. Open System Preferences 2. Open Network 3. Select Advanced 4. Click DNS tab 5. Add some DNS servers eg: and from google or and from open dns.
