The Silver Shoes (also called Silver Slippers) are fictional charmed items from the magical Land of Oz. Their first and only appearance is in L. Frank Baum ‘s first Oz book titled The Wonderful Wizard of Oz , published in 1900.
The Wizard of Oz (1939) The house falls on and kills the Wicked Witch of the East, freeing the Munchkins from her tyranny. Glinda the Good Witch of the North arrives via magic bubble and shows Dorothy the dead woman’s two feet visibly sticking out from under the house wearing the ruby slippers.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is too long to be a parable and not quite didactic enough to be an allegory. Still, the main characters (Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Lion) embody traditional American values. Dorothy’s is the most important one, self-reliance.
