Found these steps posted elsewhere by another and the solution worked for me 1. Go to Windows 8.1 Control Panel. 2. Go to Hardware and Sound; Devices and Printers; Unspecified (look for Apple Mobile Device USB Driver) 3. Right-click, then select properties on the menu list. 4. Select the “Hardware” tab at the top When the properties dialog box opens, once more select properties on the lower right hand button. 5. Under the “Driver” tab menu, the update driver button will be grey and unselectable here. So you need to select and click “Change Settings” button located near the lower left corner. 6. Now you can click the “Driver” tab menu near the top, so you can see the “Update Driver” button. 7. Select “Update Driver”. 8. Select and click “Browse my computer for driver software”. 9. For Windows 8.1 64 bit, it should be located in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. 10. Click Next, and let the driver re-install. 11. iTunes 220.127.116.11 should open automatically if your iphone is connected alreadyIS THERE A WAY I CAN UNINSTALL MY PHONE FROM MY COMPUTER THAN REINSTALL MY PHONE?i had the same issue after 2 hours of failures i was able to fix the issue. basically what has happed is some how your iphone driver has stopped working. go to your device manager. more than likely under other devices you would see your iphone under recovery mode. roght click—>properties. click on driver tab and update driver. this would get your itunes to see your iphone. recover your iphone and then update or not. let me know if this helps. good luckI have tried that and it still wont work..Couple of quick questions on what does happen with your computer when you plug the phone in. First – Does the computer show an auto play window when you plug the deivce in? Basically asking to import pictures. Second – Does the device charge on the computer? Third – Laptop or desktop? Fourth – Is the phone plugged into the closest USB port to the power supply on the computer? These seem to be standard USB 2.0 ports (unless you have a really old or a really new computer). Fifth – Did you uninstall all 6 pieces of iTunes or just the iTunes progam it’s self?you may have to uninstall and reinstall itunes and all of its componants and that should resolve your issue!I had the same problem (still do) Unfortunately, this did not work for me..
